About Me

Yeng Vue

Learning, Growing, and Sharing One Step at a Time

About

My name is Yeng Vue, but culturally, my name is Ka Yeng Vue. I am Hmong American. Thailand-born and American-raised. I was born to refugee parents who came to the United States for protection and a better life when I was about five years old. I am the oldest of five siblings.

Growing up, my ever learning mind clashed with my parents’ cultural views, and I finally made peace that there will always be pieces of myself that clashed with my culture, and that it is okay. I was raised well by parents who never said “I love you,” but showed that they did in their actions.

But through everything, education has always been a backbone to my growth. It freed my mind of barriers that I learned I can overcome, what it means to always be learning and growing as an individual, and opening my mind to other people’s life and choices.

I am always learning, taking every lesson one at a time, and consistently striving to keep my peace, internally and externally.

Additionally, I am also a scholar. I have my masters degree in psychology with an option in psychological research and bachelors degree in psychology and minor in criminology.

I like to stimulate my brain by questioning and inquiring about my thoughts and actions, as well as others. I have as many questions as I do opinions.

I am learning as I go, and sharing these all with you all so it can potentially help you as well.

So come along with me to just have a space to share different thoughts and opinions, learn new things, and find more joy in every things that Yeng Thinks!

What are my educational research interests?

I want to help the most ostracized and vulnerable population in our society get the help that they need.

I want to research ways to better support and help the incarcerated/ formerly incarcerated individuals with mental health and substance use problems. Through policy and treatment focused research, I want to provide the necessary equitable ladders to help this population succeed back in our society, both mentally, physically, financially, and relationship-wise.

I am most interested in the adult population, but I volunteer with youths in the juvenile centers and programs as well, so my passion extends to all age. Actions have consequences, but I believe in extending compassion toward those that wants to change and improve themselves.

Fun Fact

My friends coined the term “yeng-itis” in high school to describe a series of behaviors that I do habitually, that they unconsciously started doing as well, not knowing that “itis” meant inflammation.
